We help nourish and empower the children of Powell River.

We provide over $15,000 worth of nutritious food annually, supporting the School Food Program at qathet School District and help feed more than 300 children each day.
About: School Food Program

The Powell River Firefighters Charity is proud to support school food programs that promote student health, wellness, and community connection. Since launching our own School Food Program in the 2016/17 school year, we’ve provided additional financial support to the qathet School District, helping ensure that students have access to nutritious food every day — beyond what provincial funding alone can provide.

Today, over 300 meals are served daily in schools across the district. From granola bars and fresh fruit to cheese and daily soup offerings at seven schools, these open-access programs ensure that any student who wants food can receive it — no questions asked. Every school in the district offers a lunch program, helping students stay nourished, focused, and ready to learn.

The benefits go far beyond the plate. School food programs help strengthen social connections, support positive relationships with staff, and relieve financial and time pressures for families. Research shows that well-nourished students attend school more regularly, perform better academically, and experience improved physical and mental health.

Your donation helps ensure no child in our community goes hungry at school. Together, we can support growing minds, ease the burden on families, and build a stronger, healthier Powell River.

PRFC was proud to take part in The Great Big Crunch alongside students and staff from the qathet School District. Our off-duty firefighters handed out fresh fruit and veggies, joining in the big bite to celebrate healthy food in schools and raise awareness about the importance of nutrition for all kids. Every crunch counts toward a stronger, healthier future.
